Problem Identification of graphite reinforced aluminium matrix composite:-
Based on the literature review, we observed that powder metallurgy method is one of the most widely used and simple method for metal matrix composite fabrication, because of its ease of processing compared to other methods. Therefore, powder metallurgy method is selected to fabricate aluminum matrix graphite reinforced composite. However, there are few major challenges for the effective reinforcement of graphite in the aluminum matrix by powder technology technique, as follows:
⦁ Homogeneous dispersion of graphite particle into the aluminum matrix.
⦁ Interfacial bond strength between filler and matrix.
⦁ Chemical stability of graphite in the composites.
⦁ Structural stability of graphite.
⦁ Due to a chemical reaction between graphite and aluminum particle, aluminum carbide is formed at the interface of aluminum and graphite.
⦁ Density affected by the porosity.
⦁ Orientation miss-match due to thermal expansion of various phases.
